Thank you much for this wonderful post, as someone just starting my MA in Medieval studies it is great to be able to get a roadmap of what the future might look like. Best of luck in your studies, and I will definitely give swimming a go.

Hi! This is Eve, a 2nd-year sociology PhD student!

Thank you so much for this post, it’s really comforting to know that others are navigating the same thoughts and feelings I have about my PhD journey.

Reading it reminded me how, during the PhD, life becomes so intertwined with work that everything feels deeply personal. Being a scholar and researcher carries a great deal of vulnerability: putting your thoughts out there, speaking your voice, waiting for responses, and watching your projects slowly take shape. In many ways, it feels like a sacred process (and I’d also argue, a wonderful one).

Thank you for the honesty, thank you for the words, and best of luck in this new chapter!

Hey Eve, thanks so much for your lovely comment!

I'm so glad this post resonated with you; grad study is quite strange and I'm very much a beginner when trying to figure out where I fit within it. It's beautiful and rather strange all at once.

Best of luck for the second year!

Thank you so much!! It is quite strange; both incredibly ready to start, and yet totally overwhelming. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for both of us!
